DB Regio and DB Training win German Education Prize 2013

Tablet computers make possible the optimisation of information processes as well as allowing mobile employees to work and learn while on the go. The "Pro InFo KiN" project was awarded the 1st Deutscher Bildungspreis (German Education Prize) in the category Innovation.

During the award ceremony of the first German Education Prize, DB Regio and DB Training were awarded the innovation prize for exemplary education and talent management. The award is in recognition of a joint project carried out by the local public transport subsidiary company DB Regio and DB Training, the qualification and consultancy provider of the Deutsche Bahn corporation (DB – German railways). The project focused on optimisation of information processes as well as on improved flexibility and simplified integration of learning processes into the professional daily routine of local public transport conductors (Kundenbetreuer im Nahverkehr – KiN).

120 conductors were equipped with tablet computers for access to online information, knowledge databases and web-based continuing education options during their employment aboard the train.

"Only well-informed employees can offer good service to our customers. This includes innovative methods as regards qualification and new forms of learning. We therefore continuously work on providing our conductors with the best possible means of access to online information and continuing education options that are in line with demand", said Dr Rüdiger Grube, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of Deutsche Bahn AG. "The recognition by way of the German Education Prize makes us very happy; it encourages us to continue in our efforts."

A total of 133 enterprises competed for the German Education Prize, which was awarded for the first time by TÜV Süd Akademie and EuPD Research Sustainable Management under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
