Complete report on "Continuing education behaviour in Germany" published

Participation, trends and topics of continuing education as well as favoured methods of learning in adulthood: these are some of the subject areas that are covered in the report "Weiterbildungsverhalten in Deutschland" (Continuing education behaviour in Germany). It contains a summary of the results of the Adult Education Survey 2012. The report is of interest for the areas of science, education policy and educational practice; it was published in Open Access and is available online in unabridged form.

The complete report confirms that, at 49 per cent, the rate of continuing education participation is as high as never before since reporting started in 1979. This record level of participation is mostly due to the increase of company-internal continuing education measures. Another result of the report: it confirms for all European countries a connection between the socio-demographic characteristics of adult persons and their (non-) participation in lifelong learning.

The study "Weiterbildungsverhalten in Deutschland" is commissioned and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and has been published at intervals of two to three years since 1979. It is based on representative cross-sectional surveys and is used for investigating the participation in education of the adult population.
