Vocational education as a stepping stone

Last autumn, more than 30 individuals entered into working life at the vocational education and training division at the Duisburg Werkstatt für Menschen mit Behinderung (Workshop for People with Disabilities). The participants usually enter into their vocational education and training programme after graduating from a special-needs school; they will start in a vocational education and training division at the facilities on Kalkweg.

The programme begins with a three-month orientation phase and continues with 24 months of various courses in the areas of metal working, carpentry, gardening and landscaping, domestic management and assembly work.

A total of approximately 150 participants are in the process of completing their two-year vocational education and training programme at the Duisburg workshop. The focus is on individual learning under corresponding supervision and with appropriate support. The aim of this vocational education and training programme is to enable participants to find their individual place of work.
