Occupations in construction are attractive for young people

A shortage of skilled workers is the problem in many places. The skilled crafts are also not immune from this. However, this year the domestic skilled construction trades can again be pleased about substantial reinforcements. As part of the traditional skilled craftsman graduation event, 35 successful trainees from the construction occupations received their sought-after journeyman's certificate.

Master craftsman Gerhard Kotter from the district craftsman association conferred the status of journeyman on the young skilled workers. Guests from politics and business, the vocational schools, the training centre, the training companies and the respective families had come in large numbers to the award ceremony in the Ceremonial Hall in Siegsdorf to celebrate with the newly qualified journeymen.

"You've all got there," said Head of the Craft Guild, Bernhard Fuchs, addressing the young journeymen, and showed them the many vocational opportunities which the young craftsmen and women with the journeyman's certificate had worked hard for over three years of training. He explained that the demand for good skilled workers continues unabated, in a similar way to the good order situation enjoyed by the construction trade, and this was indicative of job security.

"I am here to recognise your achievements," said Member of the Federal State Parliament Klaus Steiner and congratulated the journeymen on the decision to opt for the occupation. He spoke in strong support of vocational education and training and talked about the many accolades which vocational training under the dual system is currently enjoying abroad. He also called for more political involvement in democratic parties and participation in volunteer programmes.
