Responding to the economic demand for qualified skilled labour, the German Employers’ Organisation for Vocational and Further Training announced the modernisation of 11 recognised occupations in 2010/2011.
While some already existing job outlines such as "Cooper," "Gunsmith," "Precision Machinist," "Technician in heavy-duty Fabric Goods Manufacturing," "Paper Technician," "Ranger," "Stablehand," "Milk Technologist" and "Sailmaker" are being updated and reorganised, others will be newly implemented. In the sector of geoinformation technology, for example, the organisation coordinated the outline of two entirely new state-recognized professions called "Surveying technician" and "Geomatician".
More than 200 German vocational professions have been modernised or newly developed over the last ten years. In doing so, Germany provides young people with vocational qualifications that offer good career prospects and that ensure a modern workforce for business enterprises at the same time. Observing recent developments in vocational education and training, the organisation recognises "a general trend towards a growing interdependence of commercial, technical and service processes."
