The future of the catering trade depends on qualified employees. Therefore, the German region Oberfranken with many good hotels and restaurants promotes vocational training for cooks and hospitality experts.
According to Michael Moslein, representative of the local Chamber of Industry and commerce, "the standards concerning working hours and income in the catering trade have been decisively raised during the last ten years. There are also very good career perspectives for cooks and hotel service assistants on the middle management level. And the jobs are crisis-proof, because people always want to eat and drink."
"If you want attract hotel guests and restaurant customers with the quality of your local products and services, as we do in Oberfranken, you need local staff to support your activities", says Moslein. "That is why we offer a variety of apprenticeships in our region. Some of our trainees start an international career later on. There is hardly any industry so internationally-oriented as the catering trade."
