Bonn: Enhancing the competitive edge by vocational training

Four enterprises in the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg region were awarded a certificate of the German Federal Employment Agency for their efforts to promote young talents by vocational training.

"By issuing the certificate, I am honouring your engagement in the promotion of young talents, representing many other enterprises that show social responsibility by engaging in vocational training in cooperation with the Federal Employment Agency", said Maria Schmickler-Herriger, Director of the Federal Employment Agency, when she awarded the certificates in front of company representatives.

Among the awarded companies is Herbert Nelles' small bakery. Inviting school classes and providing them with first-hand impressions of his work is a sign of the baker's social commitment. The electrician Johannes Schmitz currently employs ten trainees – a fourth of the entire staff. "Vocational training is an important investment in the future of our business", says Thorsten Radünz, Schmitz’ training supervisor.

Besides these two small businesses, certificates were also awarded to a medium-sized printer/publishing house and a subsidiary of a chemical multinational. Despite their diversity, the representatives of all companies agree, "Vocational training is vital for businesses in order to remain competitive. In this way, businesses can provide themselves with qualified young talents and save costs on recruitment, integration of new staff and miscasts."
