The Federal Institute of Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) and the Institute for Employment Research have published new model calculations concerning the development of the labour market in Germany until the year 2025.
The results show which segments are threatened with a lack of experts and which qualification levels are threatened with unemployment. According to the study there will be a tremendous lack of qualified staff on the medium qualification level which might add up to 1.8 million employees. The lack will be most evident in the health and social sector as well as in occupations related to mathematics, IT, natural sciences and technical training.
Employees without a vocational degree will be less and less in demand. It will become more difficult for them in the future to find a job. The developments need not necessarily occur, though, as companies and employees have various means and opportunities to react in time before the problems arise.
