Schavan presented the budget for the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in the German Parliament.
Education and vocational training is going to be the backbone of a knowledge-based society of the 21st century - investing in it means investing in the future. Education and research are of major importance for the German government. The budget of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research has reached an all-time high: It will be increased by 7.2 per cent to 11.65 billion euros in 2011.
"We lay the foundation for prosperity and social security, thus bearing responsibility for the next genreation", said Federal Minster Annette Schavan while presenting the budget. "I am convinced that education opportunities are life opportunities. Education is the key to social, economic and cultural participation and to an independent life."
Fair education opportunities, promoting the advancement of future experts and the academic sector are in special focus, according to the Minister. "We must concentrate on promoting future experts to remain internationally competitive", Schavan emphasised.
