According to Hans Heinrich Driftmann, president of the Federation of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK), the number of apprenticeships exceeds the number of applicants.
In order to fight the growing lack of qualified staff, more and more enterprises now offer apprenticeships to under-performing and older applicants.
The Federal Employment Agency confirms that by the end of september last year they registered 20,000 free apprenticeships und only 12,300 applicants who had not yet found a training opportunity.
The apprenticeship market is almost empty
