Top 50 Ranking: Most popular jobs for school graduates

Men love technology, women don't. As a result, women are their own biggest competition.

There are 349 different skilled occupations in Germany, most of them are technical. However, most women neglect technical professions when it comes to job orientation. Technical professions, such as motor vehicle mechatronics technician (1st place), industrial mechanic (3rd place) or electronics technician (5th place) top the men’s ranking.

Women tend to choose commercial professions. There are 6 commercial jobs in the Top 10, such as sales assistant for retail services or office administration. One quarter of all female trainees can be found in only 4 jobs, three quarters in 23 out of 349 possible trainee-jobs. As a result many women push for the same jobs. Women in search of apprenticeships have a difficult time finding open positions if they have such a narrow spectrum of jobs they choose.
