Vocational training dialogue

During a recent visit of several days in Lörrach, the vocational school Gewerbeschule Lörrach and the Trakya University in Edirne, Turkey agreed to further intensify their cooperation.

Headmaster Ulrich Grebien and his guest Professor Yunus Pinar, Head of Vocational Education and Training at the university of the partnering Turkish city, explored opportunities for a long-term cooperation between the vocational school departments of electrics, metal and food.

The key purpose of the visit was to get to know the Lörrach-based school and to establish contacts to the dual-system university (Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg - DHBW) and to the enterprises providing vocational training, including visits to the enterprises Kaltenbach and Endress & Hauser. A supporting programme for the far-travelled guests further made perfect the visit.

The idea of organising a student exchange will be implemented soon. Apprentices from the Lörrach school's food department will travel to Edirne in October this year. Two baker's apprentices and two bakery-specialised shop assistants respectively are to be given a work placement with Turkish enterprises and thus also get to know the cultural diversity of the hosting country.

In order to facilitate communication, the exchange students are given the opportunity to acquire some knowledge of the Turkish language by way of an adult education centre language course prior to their sojourn in Turkey.
