German Schools Abroad Competition 2012: Egypt comes first

"Pupils build bridges worldwide": The German School Alexandria, the German International School Seoul and the German Embassy School Teheran were honoured in Berlin as the winners of this year's Chambers of Industry and Commerce German Schools Abroad Competition.

Hans Heinrich Driftmann, President of the German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), and Cornelia Pieper, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office, awarded the prizes endowed with a total of 80,000 Euro during a festive evening hosted by the DIHK and opened by Federal Economy Minister Philipp Rösler.

The award ceremony took place in the context of the German Chamber of Commerce Abroad (AHK) World Conference, where managers and executives from the German chambers of commerce abroad (AHKs) meet every two years.

With the competition "Pupils build bridges worldwide", the association of German chambers of industry and commerce intends to put into perspective the outstanding work performed by the German schools abroad.

The competition recognises outstanding practical examples and innovative concepts; this year's third competition honoured exemplary performances from Egypt, Korea and Iran.

First prize and thus prize money totalling 40,000 Euro went to the Deutsche Schule der Borromäerinnen Alexandria (German Sisters of Mercy of St. Borromeo School Alexandria) for an independently organised specialised secondary school marketing project.

A well differentiated concept for study course and occupational orientation convinced the members of the jury to give the second prize and 25,000 Euro to the Deutsche Schule Seoul International (German School Seoul International).

Third prize and 15,000 Euro went to the Deutsche Botschaftsschule Teheran (German Embassy School Teheran) for a project focusing on cultural and knowledge exchange.
