More integration through vocational education and training

During the event "Integration durch Ausbildung" (Integration through Vocational Education and Training) in Berlin, the Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and Federal Government Commissioner for SMEs and Tourism, Ernst Burgbacher, and the Turkish Ambassador to Germany, Hüseyin Avni Karslioglu, have launched the German-Turkish joint campaign for the improved apprenticeship placement of Turkish young people.

In future, with the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology programme "Passgenaue Vermittlung Auszubildender an ausbildungswillige Unternehmen" (Tailored placement of apprentices with enterprises willing to provide vocational education and training) and with support from the Turkish consulates general, the increased placement of young people with Turkish roots in small and medium-sized enterprises providing vocational education and training is to be promoted.

At the same time, State Secretary Burgbacher and Ambassador Karslioglu appealed to all enterprises in Germany to generally increase their efforts in providing vocational education and training for young people with a migration background.

State Secretary Burgbacher said, "however, in view of the skilled labour shortage in the industry, it becomes increasingly important also for enterprises to invest in the vocational education and training of young people to a greater degree than is so far the case and, in doing so, to increasingly address also young migrants. I am delighted that, with our joint campaign for the placement of young people with Turkish roots, Ambassador Karslioglu and I are able to make an important contribution to this end."

According to Ambassador Karslioglu, "the young people from Turkey or with Turkish roots living in Germany, who have a very good command of both the German and Turkish language, are our future. It is our joint responsibility to continue our investment in these young people. Integration means participation. Our goal is the full participation of people with a migration background in the society they live in, in equal measure on a social, economical, cultural and political level. Educating the young people and raising them to be individuals making a contribution to the country they live in constitutes the beginning of this process. Enterprises employing young people who have decided to enter into an apprenticeship not only increase their business volume and investments, but at the same time support the integration process this country needs. We support the participation of Turkish migrants and people with a Turkish background in German society and all positive steps leading towards this goal, both now and in the future."
