DIHK: More continuing education for climate issues
According to information from the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK), the issues of climate protection and sustainability are becoming increasingly important in initial and continuing education and training.
"Across the entire range of occupations, an important question here is how specifically do we operate economically in a more sustainable manner," explains Achim Dercks, DIHK Deputy Managing Director to the German Press Agency, adding that this concerns company-based aspects of environmental protection, energy efficiency and use of resources.
"Climate protection and sustainability are changing all areas of economic activity – and this means the issues are important in all occupations," says Dercks. This also applies, he adds, in commercial occupations where, for example, sustainability is playing an increasing role in procurement.
There are also specific continuing education and training courses. For example, the certified industrial supervisor specialising in chemistry is expected to understand the production process for technical gases – including hydrogen.
Dercks explained that training is particularly required in the topic areas of hydrogen, e-mobility, and in accounting for and reducing CO2. This is the reason why DIHK-Bildungs-gGmbH is currently working with subject experts to develop new national certificate courses on these topics.
