Environment education project in vocational schools run by LBV launched for fourth time

Supporting a sustainable future – because today we care!

It is the same message this year: "today we care – towards sustainability in vocational schools". The Bavarian Association for the Protection of Birds (LBV) is looking for interested students at vocational schools to take part in the successful LBV project in the area of education for sustainable development. Once again, during the 2020/21 school year, they are being asked to set up a project relating to sustainability in their school and to implement it. With this, the LBV is actively seeking to promote the development of a sustainable present and future – because today we care!

Climate protection, conserving resources, avoiding waste or healthy and sustainable nutrition—the content of education for sustainable development covers a wide range of topics. Besides the current extracurricular involvement in climate protection, the area also provides for a wide range of opportunities for school projects. "In the next academic year, the LBV will help Bavaria's vocational schools to continue development on the path towards sustainability. You don't need to have specific plans when you apply," explains Christiane Baumann, LBV training advisor and project leader. Following a successful application, the project idea can be developed together with the LBV.

After an introductory workshop, the LBV are on hand to support participating schools throughout the entire period of the project, the 2020/21 academic year. If a project needs financial support, the LBV is able to step in with up to €1,000. "The project cycles so far have shown that many students are very focused with high levels of motivation and implement their sustainability projects very successfully. We are delighted to also be running a project in the coming school year," explains Christiane Baumann.

The project was initiated by the LBV and is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection. Groups of students from all Bavarian vocational schools, vocational technical schools, colleges of advanced vocational studies, trade and technical schools, and vocational schools providing special education support can apply to take part.
