EuroSkills 2016: German national team proudly receive 21 awards

Team Germany are medallists - EuroSkills 2016 - WorldSkills Germany. A fantastic result - Team Germany travelled to the 5th European Championships with 24 participants - 21 of them were proud recipients of gold, silver or bronze medals or received the medal of excellence for exceptional performance.

Hubert Romer, Director of WorldSkills Germany and President of WorldSkills Europe was delighted, commenting, "This result means that Germany has once again made it into the top five in Europe. In my view, what is most impressive is that, if you look at the average points total per participant, our champions came in third place. This shows that we have achieved something really outstanding with training in Germany."

"I am thoroughly satisfied with the overall performance of the team," sums up Hubert Romer. "I am delighted about this fantastic team performance. We are moving in the right direction. However, there are nations such as Russia who have moved ahead from nothing to a leading position in the chasing pack in just a few years. This, of course, represents a certain pressure for us, but also spur us on to continue maximising investment in the education and training of our young skilled workers."

At EuroSkills in Gothenburg 2016, a total of 493 talented young people from 28 European countries and seven non-European countries demonstrated their abilities in 35 official disciplines and in five presentation disciplines.

Europe's largest vocational education and training event was watched by just under 75,000 visitors who were caught up in the excitement of the events together with the huge number of young skilled workers, none of whom were older than 25.

Team Germany travelled to Gothenburg with 24 participants. The young skilled workers competed against their professional colleagues from around Europe in 16 individual and 3 team competitions as well as in one presentation discipline. The EuroSkills delegation from Germany included 50 participants, experts and officials in total.
