German dual VET system on national TV in India

The national Indian TV broadcasting system presents three German apprentices to exemplify the German dual training system. iMOVE supported and accompanied the crew from India who filmed in the Bonn region in May 2017.

The feature for the national TV series "Hunnarbaaz" aims at improving the image of Vocational Education and Training (VET).
From 6 to 11 May 2017, the Indian crew filmed technical professions, apprentices in their professional, academic and private environment, interviews with trainers and the parents of one apprentice in Germany.

iMOVE made enquiries for the Indian TV crew and organized and accompanied the production process of the film.

One of the many film locations war the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB), in which Professor DrFriedrich Hubert Esser, the president of the BIBB, and Ulrich Meinecke, head of the section iMOVE, were interviewed.

On June and August, two films are broadcast on TV in India.

Day 1: Visit of "Training Ambassador" Philipp Damrow

On the first day, the Indian film crew visited Philipp Damrow. He completes a dual studies programme in the field of business administration at the Verlag für die Deutsche Wirtschaft (publishing house for the German industry). "Training Ambassador" Philipp Damrow welcomed the crew at his home.

Hunnarbaaz! Skilled to Win! is a weekly Indian TV show about vocational education and training which is broadcast on the Doordarshan National state television channel.

The filming in Germany was completed with support from iMOVE and is part of episodes 83 and 73 which were broadcast in August and in June 2017.

Day 2: Manufacturing company and apprenticeship workshop

The medium-sized manufacturing company Kuhne GmbH and the apprenticeship workshop Siegburg were scheduled for shooting on the second day.

At Kuhne's, the Indians interviewed the CEO Peter Kuhne and talked to apprentices and trainers.

The crew also filmed and talked with apprentices at the apprenticeship workshop Siegburg which is a center for further training of the chamber of industry and trade Bonn/Rhein-Sieg, specialized on occupations in the metal and electronics sector.

Day 3: At the central sewage treatment plant Cologne Stammheim

In the north of Cologne, the crew filmed Max Zimmer at his training organization. He is trained in his second year to become an expert for sewage water treatment at the municipal sewage treatment services Cologne. The budding expert is shown in various areas of activity like the central controlling room, the sample taking and the lab.

Subsequently the crew filmed at various outdoor locations in Cologne and visited Max Zimmer's family.

Day 4: Training locations publishing house and supermarket

On this day the shooting started at the BIBB with an interview of Ulrich Meinecke, head of the section iMOVE. He elaborated on the tasks and services of export initiative.

Once more the crew visited Philipp Damorw, this time at his training company, the Verlag für die Deutsche Wirtschaft in Bonn.

Subsequently the crew filmed Justine Wittkowski at her training company which is a REWE supermarket in Bonn Bad Godesberg. She was strongly supported by her supervisor, the manager oft he market.

Day 5: At the BIBB and at a vocational training college

The last day of shooting started with an Interview of the BIBB president Professor Dr. Friedrich Hubert Esser. He elaborated on the manifold relations between Germany and India in the field of vocational education and training and on the perspectives and limitations regarding the transfer of dual elements to national training systems. He also vividly described his own professional career from a baker to the president of the BIBB.

At the Friedrich-List-Berufskolleg, a vocational training college in Bonn Bad Godesberg, the film crew once more met Philipp Damrow. At the college he completes the academic part of his apprenticeship.
