Insight into new technologies

Young intern from Nepal completes continuing education at the Ilmtal clinic.

As part of a continuing education and training project, Rajesh Pandey spent a week in the gastroenterology department at the Ilmtal clinic in Pfaffenhofen. He was invited by the Munich-based Gastroenterology Foundation e. V., an association which aims to provide continuing education and training in endoscopy for doctors and nursing staff from developing countries.

Volker Stagge, senior doctor for gastroenterology at the Ilmtal clinic, has been part of the Gastroenterology Foundation since 2013 and each year looks after doctors and nurses from Nepal who wish to come to Germany to find out about new technologies and processes in the field of endoscopy in hospitals.

The 33-year-old intern Pandy is one of the youngest doctors from the team of interns in Nepal. His home hospital, the Dhulikhel hospital, is an academic teaching hospital and part of Kathmandu University. It is responsible for a catchment area of almost 2 million people.

Pandy has been in Germany for 4 weeks as a guest in various hospitals and is here to acquire specialist knowledge. Following Freising and Memmingen, the hospital in Erding is his final stop. "At the Ilmtal clinic in Pfaffenhofen I saw modern technologies, new processes and very good interdisciplinary teamwork first-hand. I am happy to take what I have learnt back home with me," said Pandy.
