Die Asiatische Entwicklungsbank (ADB) unterstützt die Stadt Nanning in der autonomen Region Guangxi Zhuang (Volksrepublik China) im Bildungsbereich. Unter anderem sollen Ausbildungsprogramme im Gesundheitswesen durch ein umfassendes Berufsbildungssystem verbessert werden.

"With a rapidly ageing population and a greater shift toward a knowledge-based economy, the country is in need of qualified and well-trained elderly caregivers and early childhood teachers," said Wendy Walker, a Senior Social Development Specialist at ADB's East Asia Department. "This project will establish a vocational training model, demonstrating how students can be trained for in-demand service jobs."
Nanning is the capital city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, one of the least-developed areas in the PRC. More than half of the city’s population of seven million are from ethnic minority groups. At present, there is a severe shortage of qualified kindergarten teachers, schools, and medical personnel in the city.
ADB's $50 million loan will upgrade campus facilities and equipment, develop competency-based curricula, and improve teaching skills at Nanning Health School and Nanning No. 4 Vocational and Technical School. It will build 18 buildings on the two campuses, develop elderly care curriculum for the nursing program, and establish pilot training bases in kindergarten teaching and rural health.
By 2018, 95% of students from the two schools are expected to find their first jobs within six months of graduation, and there will be increased employers' satisfaction with the knowledge, skills, and competencies of employees graduating from these two schools.
