Rudy: Falling standard of ITIs a concern
Union minister of state for skill development and entrepreneurship Rajiv
Pratap Rudy said unchecked setting up of ITIs by private players has seen a
deterioration in the standard of education and skill development
programmes.
Talking to reporters here on Tuesday Rudy said, "There are
around 13,000 ITIs in country including 2000 run by the government. In the past
15 years, private players were encouraged to open ITIs and some 11,000 such
institutions were started. While performance of some government ITIs and private
institutions is outstanding and their standard can be compared with IITs, most
of the other ITIs are not performing as per government's expectation as well as
industries depending on them for skilled workers."
Rudy said that his
ministry would review ITIs and their performance to maintain uniformity in their
performance. He said that skill development programmes were being run by 27
ministries under 70 different schemes. He said his ministry is creating a
network of institutions for developing skill among youths engaged in unorganized
sector or continuing education to seek job. He said model centers under skill
development programme would be established in city area while their branches
will also operate in rural belts under PM Skill Development Scheme.
